Mixing It Up with Maybelline 24HR Color Tattoos

By Eula @omgaeula
Mixing it Up with Maybelline 24HR Color Tattoos The Maybelline Eye Studio 24HR Color Tattoos are cream gel shadows that are meant to be long-lasting and intensely-pigmented. Of course, these claims vary per shade. The finish is more satin/shimmer, as opposed to the frostier L'Oreal's Infallible eye shadows. Being creams, they're perfect for summer -- a quick swipe and you're set for the day, even for swimming. They're also multi-purpose, able to serve as shadow, base, or liner, making them perfect for those trips out of town.
Mixing it Up with Maybelline 24HR Color Tattoos I purchased nine shades but am only keeping the bottom three. A quick rundown of the other five:
  • Pomegranate Punk is a shimmery red-burgundy.
  • Gold Rush is a shiny yellow gold.
  • Waves of White, a limited edition shade for summer 2013, appears white but is actually a duochrome blue-teal.
  • Inked in Pink is a frosty metallic pink.
  • Bold Gold is a shimmery medium gold.

Mixing it Up with Maybelline 24HR Color Tattoos The creams are housed in a weighty glass jar with a labeled plastic cap. Packaging feels solid. Possibility of these drying out is bigger than of that happening to the more powdery L'Oreal Infallibles, simply because of the nature of cream shadows.
Mixing it Up with Maybelline 24HR Color Tattoos Tough as Taupe is the only matte shade in the line if I'm not mistaken. As you can see above, it looks mauvey tan in the jar but after the first swipe its true mushroom gray appears. It feels tacky like an eye primer, but applies very smoothly and is opaque. It makes a great base (as you will see below) and is also good on its own, as a lid wash or crease color. Without primer it lasted 8 hours without creasing, until I washed it off. I haven't tried it for longer than that.
Mixing it Up with Maybelline 24HR Color Tattoos Bad to the Bronze is a metallic bronze that looks warm at first, but scraping off the top layer shows that it actually leans cool. It should suit both warm and cool skin tones. It too is very opaque with little product.

Mixing it Up with Maybelline 24HR Color Tattoos Seashore Frosts, also a limited edition summer 2013 color, is dusty teal gray with a white gold duochrome. It's an interesting multidimensional shade with an unfortunate formula. It applies a little sheer and is quite slippery, making it a challenge to work with. As you layer on the color it tends to slide around, settling into uneven patches. Best to get it right in one layer, which isn't easy. It's a gorgeous color though so I'll keep practicing with it.

Mixing it Up with Maybelline 24HR Color Tattoos Tough as Taupe and Bad to the Bronze apply smoothly and opaquely; Seashore Frosts a little less so.
Mixing it Up with Maybelline 24HR Color Tattoos Using Seashore Frosts over a black or taupe base brings a whole new dimension to the shade. Very interesting!
Mixing it Up with Maybelline 24HR Color Tattoos Not a proper eye look, just quick swatches on my lid: Seashore Frosts on the inner corner, then Bad to the Bronze, then Tough as Taupe on the outer corner. You can see how Seashore Frosts has a really lovely mix of teal/gray/pink/gold, but is quite patchy.
The Maybelline 24HR Color Tattoos retail for a mere $5.99 /14 oz. at most drugstores. I don't think they've come to our shores yet, so again I'm preparing a giveaway of 4 shades, coming soon.
