Finally, after months of guessing from the news it’s been announced that Wisconsin congressman Paul Ryan is Romney’s VP nomination. On Saturday morning, August 11, decided to put all speculation to rest and name Ryan. During a rally at Norfolk, Virginia he started off his speech with “America’s Comeback Team”. Also during the introduction, Romney mainly talks about Ryan’s background. He talks about how Ryan was the first to be elected to the House at age 28. Romney said, “His leadership begins with character and value. Paul Ryan works in Washington, but his beliefs remain firmly rooted in Janesville, Wisconsin”. Romney proceeds to say that Ryan is responsible and he brings optimism for the future. What critics really believe Romney likes about Ryan is that he has held seven terms in Congress and has been ambitious with his ideas.
Ryan walks onto the stage, looking non-formal, and says, “This is a crucial moment in the time of our nation, President Obama is part of the problem, and Mitt Romney is part of the solution. This is a record of failure. President Obama and too many like him in Washington have refused to make difficult decisions because they are more worried about the next election than they are about the next generation”. These words are gold to their audience because it states the problem and the solution while saying that they will make the hard decisions.
The themes that Ryan chose to talk about in his speech national debt, high unemployment, and small businesses. Critics see this as a power move by the Republican candidates. Critics also say that what will make this election is at the core money. They want less taxes and for the debt to go down. What Romney brings to the election is his business background. A lot of people like this because he has better management of money compared to Obama. Later in Ryan’s speech he quoted his father in saying, “Another thing my dad would say is every generation leaves their children better off. For the first time in our generation, we are on a path that would undo that legacy. It is our duty to save the American dream for our children and theirs.
There is only 86 days until the election between Obama vs. Romney. Who will be the U.S.A. next or continuing president?
