Misterwives Irresistible New Song ‘kings & Queens’

For those of you on the lookout for additions to your euphoric summer playlists, get ready to bask in the sunshine of MisterWives’ “Kings & Queens”. This Brooklyn-based trio combines three things we can’t resist: dreamy synth lines, a contagious dance beat, and a dynamic female vocalist (Mandy Lee) belting her heart out. Lee’s range and tenacity is reminiscent of powerhouse Florence Welch, and compared to the tightly produced background instruments, her voice maintains an endearingly organic (almost folksy) sound that seems generally unaltered by effects — even during the explosive choruses. While the verses cool off with stripped down instrumentation and calmer vocals, the persistent drum beat keeps you tapping your feet in anticipation of the climax you know is coming.

“Kings & Queens” is the fourth single released by MisterWives since their rebirth back in January, and it’s their most ecstatic track yet. Luckily, there’s more to come, with the band’s first EP due to come out early this summer, and a music video scheduled for release in the next few weeks — apparently with cinematography that’s “quite the trip!” (Etienne Bowler, MisterWives drummer). If you still can’t get enough, be sure to catch them at Mercury Lounge on June 21.
