Misterwives – Our Own House
YouTube
With a new album on the horizon, Misterwives exude the passion of creating something new with their most recent track “Our Own House”. Their previous work handled similar sounds with a delicacy that sometimes read as timidity, but with this song, they’ve embraced and mastered their own brand of funk pop chaos. Utterly beaming in the chorus, together with the claps and the accompanying harmonies of her fellow band-mates, Mandy Lee sings “we build our own house/ with our hands over our hearts/ and we swore on that day that it’ll never fall apart”. Like fellow New Yorker’s Rubblebucket, Misterwives use the trumpet expertly to invest the song with insanely danceable zest. In the climactic build of the bridge, the repetition of “love mends the pain” is infused with the drumbeat and cements it like the love that keeps their house together.
