Minimalist Salicylic Acid 2% Serum Review| Benefits? How to Use? When to Use?

By Khadija Beauty @khadijabeauty3

Hello my lovely people out there!

Minimalist brand has been in-talks for their serums and I have been requested a lot of times for their review. So here I am with minimalist salicylic acid serum review. Gone are the days when we need to rely on international brands for Skincare actives and other products. I am so happy that the Indian brands are coming up with potent, effective skincare actives. Now we don’t have to wait for months, pay double the price (Customs) to try out salicylic acid serums or active ingredients based serums.

I have been trying their serums for a month or so and I finally feel that I can pen down my thoughts. I have also been trying other serums and moisturizer from the same brand. You can expect a series of reviews on minimalist products.

Before getting into the review let me first tell you about the benefits of salicylic acid.

What is salicylic acid? What are the benefits of salicylic acid?

Salicylic acid is chemical exfoliator (BHA). Now don’t freak out after reading the word “chemical”. No these are not harmful.
In fact, I prefer this over physical exfoliators.

Salicylic acid (BHA), an age-old remedy, works by dissolving dead skin cells and sebum from the inner walls of pores, revealing fresh skin underneath. This entire process takes place under the surface of the skin.

They come in different concentrations. But if you’re starting off then 2% is the right choice in serums. I have been using the salicylic acid serum for 2 years and I still stick with 2% only. Face serums are made up of smaller molecules of potent active ingredients that can penetrate into the deeper layers of the skin.

It comes in a glass bottle with a dropper for precise application. Their price range is pretty affordable without compromising on the quality.

How are the consistency and color?

It’s just like water. Minimalist salicylic acid serum is a water-based serum. The fact that brand has used aloe juice instead of water attracted me. It gets absorbed into the skin immediately and does not make my skin dry or stretchy or oily.

How is minimalist salicylic acid serum? How is the formulation? Does it work on acne?

I am absolutely in love with their formulation. The serum definitely works in controlling acne. Whenever I see acne is about to come I dab it on it at night and my inflammation gets suppressed overnight Alhamdulillah.

This also helps in preventing breakouts and if so ever I get any it just calms it down. The aloe juice in it soothes the skin.

We were traveling and my husband suddenly got a large painful inflammation on the nose bridge and guess what? I used this serum as a spot treatment at night and the next morning the pain disappeared and the pimple did not grow bigger. And slowly it just vanished. I have also noticed that this has controlled my excess sebum production too.

Minimalist salicylic acid serum 2% Review

This serum did not cause any burning sensation or sting on my face even during the first application. It might be because my is used to it or might be they have formulated in that way.

If you’re a beginner and if you feel any tingling sensation then wait for 5 minutes. Because it’s normal to tingle for the first few times. If the irritation persists then wash it off.

Who can use it?

I personally feel people of any skin type can use it if they use it in the right way. Best suited for oily and acne-prone skin people as the salicylic acid would dissolve the sebum and dead cells.

How to use salicylic acid serum? When to use it?

I would suggest that you use it at night (PM). After washing your face, take 2 drops of this serum and gently pat it all over your face.

Concentrate more on your nose and your acne-prone area.

And then after 2 minutes, you can layer it up with your other serums and skincare products.

If you’re using salicylic acid I would highly suggest you use a moisturizer. This is how you can prevent your skin from becoming dry.

Use this serum on alternate days. Please Don’t use it every night especially if you are a beginner because these are highly potent. And over-exfoliating would weaken your skin barrier and would not show best results.

If you are a beginner and have sensitive skin then start off by using it twice a week. Then eventually increase the application routine and use it on Alternate days.

Don’t forget to apply sunscreen in the morning.

Serums usually take minimum one month to show their results. Even this minimalist salicylic acid serum would take time but it did show overnight results on fresh break outs. Salicylic acid is one ingredient that is a must for me as I have oily skin. And when I am traveling I keep it handy because you never know when you going to get a breakout.

I LOVED this salicylic acid 2% from minimalist as it works really well on acne, helps in controlling oil production and keep my pores clean and clog-free. I would highly recommend you to try this if you have Acne-prone and oily skin. The concentration of the active ingredient and the pH are very important for any serum to work effectively. Minimalist has really considered these two and formulated in a way that it would work without compromising on skin barrier.
