TENS LISTTen Random Facts About Me

For my list I picked ten random facts about me . I’m quirky. Never normal. Like I tell my kids, “Normal is boring.” I think most people would say you get what you see with me. I’m the same person at home as I am at a book signing (although at a book signing I’m a ball of nervousness.).

  1. Garden gnomes creep me out. That’s why I told my husband, Larry, that I want this for my birthday: https://www.pinterest.com/pin/104427285086801002/

  1. I wear men’s pajama pants around the house during the day if I’m staying home to write. Worse, if I have to make a run to the corner store to buy milk or something similar, I don’t bother changing.  I do it mainly to embarrass my kids, which brings me to number three…

  1. I try to embarrass my kids as often as possible. It’s my God given right after going through labor, plus it keeps them on their toes and if they misbehave in public it’s a good disciplinary tool because they know I’ll do it. Usually I’ll break out in song. It mortifies my fourteen year-old son. It’s so much fun!

  1. I sing and dance while I listen to music. Neither of which you want to be present for. Trust me on this.

  1. My nickname when I was a child was Macaroon, like the cookie. I don’t know why. I don’t think I’ve ever eaten a macaroon. It was quickly shortened to Mac, by my dad. I suspect this was because he always wanted a son and I was an only child (he emphatically denied that, however).  When I was around nine or ten my parents tacked on “motor mouth.” So my childhood nickname became “Motor Mouth Mac.” Thanks, Mom and Dad. I love you, too.

  1. Larry has told me I have the most eclectic taste in music he’s ever heard. If you pick-up my I-Pod and put it on shuffle you might get Marvin Gaye singing “I Heard it Through the Grapevine” and the next song might be “Down with the Sickness” by Disturbed. Totally random, I know.

  1. I absolutely cannot sleep on the side of the bed closest to the door. I don’t have a logical—or even an illogical—reason for this. It just is what it is.

  1. I still have every letter, card and note Larry wrote me while he was away in the military.

  1. Larry asked me how I broke my nose right after we started dating. He said it had a little bump on it and it looked like it had been broken. Yeah, um, I’ve never broken my nose. Oops. But that blunder didn’t stop him from telling me the very next week the skirt I wore made my calves look fat. When I glared at him he said, “No, I don’t mean fat. I mean robust.” Yeah, that’s a better word.  Sure. Yet even after those idiotic remarks I still married him. Apparently love isn’t just blind, it’s deaf, too. But before you think he’s a terrible guy, he’s actually the best husband in the world. Don’t believe me? He brings me flowers for no reason, cooks, plus does laundry and irons. ‘Enuf said.

  1. I love Koegel’s pickled bologna. It’s made in Flint, Michigan, where I’m originally from. It’s not available in Texas, where I live now. I really, really miss that bologna. I dream about it. It’s that good.

So there you go, ten random facts about me. Oh, and I’ll give you one more. It took me an hour to come up with these facts. That’s how boring I am. Seriously. I don’t live life in the fast lane, but it’s still a great life and I wouldn’t trade it for anything.
Thank you for hosting me today! I enjoyed being here!ABOUT THE BOOK

Excerpt #4 for Milayna’s Angel by Michelle K. Pickett:
He holds the knife in his hand. Sunlight shines through the kitchen window and glints off the ornate metal blade. The jeweled handle sparkles. So pretty and so very deadly. He looks at me, his denim blue eyes dark, clouded with hate.   “Any last words?” he asks. It’s such a corny line, and I laugh despite my circumstances. He’s going to kill me. I have no doubt.   “Is that the best line you can come up with, Jake? Surely even you can think of something more profound to say before you plunge that knife in my chest.”He looks up at the ceiling, tapping the flat side of the blade against his pursed lips. “Nope. I don’t need to be profound, Milayna. I have the knife.”“Whatever. Just tell me one thing. Why?”“Because I can. Because Azazel wants everyone to see that he can get to you no matter how old you are,” he says, as if it should have been obvious. Maybe it should have been.He advances. The knife is pointed toward me. He stands in front of me and lays one hand on my shoulder. His touch is surprisingly gentle considering what he’s about to do. I look down and watch the knife plunge deep in my gut. Blood seeps across my shirt. He withdraws the blade and I cover the wound with my hands, trying to staunch the flow of thick, warm blood as it spills onto the tiled floor, turning it crimson.I look up, expecting to see a sneer on Jake’s face, or at least a look of satisfaction, of pleasure. Instead, I see... (deleted spoiler)I bolted upright in bed, sweat covering my body. It slithered down my back and beaded on my face. My hand flew to my chest. The other fisted around the bedsheet. My heart galloped inside my ribcage. I swung my legs out of bed. My ankles tangled in the sheets, and I face-planted on the floor next to the bed. I didn’t bother to get up. I lay down on the soft carpeting and cried. Warm, salty tears ran down my face and into my mouth.
The dream had been so real. I could almost feel the blade jam into my flesh, the blood oozing through my fingers, Jake’s hand on my shoulder.
