Clickondetroit.com: Michigan abortion foes have gotten the go-ahead to put a proposal before lawmakers to ban abortion coverage from health plans unless a separate policy is bought.

The state Bureau of Elections on Monday found that the No Taxes for Abortion Insurance group gathered enough valid signatures for their measure.

Now that the signatures have been deemed valid, the Republican-led Legislature can approve the proposal as early as this month without needing Gov. Rick Snyder’s signature. It goes to voters next November if legislators reject it or don’t vote.

If the plan backed by Right to Life of Michigan passes, individuals and businesses would have to buy an optional rider for elective abortion coverage under all private and public insurance plans.

The Republican governor vetoed similar legislation a year ago.
