Micachu & The Shapes are back! After almost three years away as a band, the group has regrouped to bring us Good Sad Happy Bad, coming out on September 11. The new single, “Sad”, is anything but what its title claims. Complete with the band’s signature, jangly, disjointed rhythms, it also has a new edge. The track may not be as excitable as earlier music from the group, but that doesn’t mean it’s lacking in any way.
“Sad” sounds more grown up, with a deeper bass drum and synth line prevailing instead of the usual high-pitched vocal. The song is significantly slower — Micachua & The Shapes have moved from the dance floor to the backroom to chill out, and the result is powerful in a different way. A short but sweet preview, this track should definitely get you excited to hear how the band has evolved on their forthcoming new album.
