Valentine’s Dates: What to Wear?In general, women tend to plan their outfits more meticulously and further in advance than men. However, for one special day of the year – St Valentine’s Day – it’s worth making that little extra effort.
Whether you’ve been together for five hours, five years or fifty years, you’re sure to want to impress the lovely lady in your life, so make sure that you look the part, no matter what you’ve got planned. The good news is that putting together the perfect outfit needn’t eat into your Valentine’s budget, when you shop smart – so you’ll have plenty of cash spare for chocolates, flowers and romantic meals out. Fine Dining The most common way to spend Valentine’s is gazing into one another’s eyes over a delicious meal and fine wine. If this is what you are planning then you definitely need to dress to impress, as you can be sure that your date will! If your restaurant of choice is really high end then only a formal suit will do – but don’t worry if you don’t own one, you can pick suit items up from ASDA from just £9! You’re also sure to get plenty of future wear out a classic black suit, at weddings, christenings, funerals, job interviews and the like.Select a smart shirt, and don’t be afraid to add color or pattern to break up the black. Stripes are good. As are ‘deeper’ colours such as plum and navy.Don’t ruin the look by neglecting the finer details. Choose a thin leather belt (you’ll find them from just £4 when you shop for men’s belts at George), a smart tie (steer clear of novelty – silk ties are a good bet!), and a pair of cufflinks, and make sure that you socks are black (and not sports socks!). Of course, if you and your date are ‘well acquainted’ than you might also want to consider your choice of underwear! Cozy Fireside Drinks Snuggling up by a crackling open fire in a country pub somewhere is surely the epitome of romance, so don’t spoil the mood by feeling uncomfortable in your clothes. The key here is getting the balance between comfort and style. Jeans are ideal, whether you prefer skinnies, bootcut or straight legs. Then why not add a thick, distressed leather belt, a casual shirt and a fine knit sweater or chunky knit cardigan for a smart/casual winter look? Live Music Maybe your date’s idea of a good time is a really great gig. If so, you want to go for a cool, relaxed but on-trend look. If you can pull off skinny jeans then they’re an ideal choice with a pair of converse trainers. A graphic tee and zip up hoody look effortless, and don’t forget to finish off with a stylish thin leather belt. A Show Going to see a show can be a tricky one to get right, style wise. If you don’t feel that a formal suit is appropriate, and then stick with a pair of chinos and a shirt worn under a fine knit cardigan. Suede boat shoes or loafers will perfect the look.
Looking the part this Valentine’s will mean that you go into your date feeling confident and comfortable, so that you can focus all of your attentions on your lovely companion.
