Meme: Six in Six

Posted on the 22 December 2013 by Cheekymeeky

I saw this meme over at The Bookworm Chronicles and decided this was the perfect way to showcase the books I read this year and loved or disappointed with.

In this meme, I catalog books in chunks of sixes like so:

Six new authors to me

  1. Abraham Verghese
  2. George R.R.Martin
  3. Alice Munro
  4. Jonathan Safran Foer
  5. Jo Nesbo
  6. Kishwar Desai

Six authors I have read before

  1. Neil Gaiman
  2. Helen Fielding
  3. Kathy Reichs
  4. Salman Rushdie
  5. F.Scott Fitzgerald
  6. Gabriel Garcia Marquez

Six authors I am looking forward to reading more of

  1. Haruki Murakami
  2. John le Carré
  3. Téa Obreht
  4. Gillian Flynn
  5. Alice Munro
  6. George R.R.Martin

Six books I have enjoyed the most

  1. Gone Girl – Gillian Flynn
  2. Hard-Boiled Wonderland and the End of the World – Haruki Murakami
  3. Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy – John le Carré
  4. Night Film – Marisha Pessl
  5. The Tiger’s Wife – Téa Obreht
  6. TransAtlantic – Colum McCann

Six books I was disappointed with

  1. The English Patient – Michael Ondaatje
  2. Polka Dots, Pony Tails and Purple Pouts – Amrita Anand Nayak
  3. Spying in High Heels – Gemma Halliday
  4. The House at Riverton – Kate Morton
  5. Wedding Night – Sophie Kinsella
  6. The Bat – Jo Nesbo

Six series of books read or started

  1. A Song of Ice and Fire – George R.R.Martin (read all the books in the series so far)
  2. The Harry Hole series – Jo Nesbo (read two books in this series)
  3. The Temperance Brennan series – Kathy Reichs (read the first book)
  4. Bridget Jones – Helen Fielding (read the final book in this trilogy)
  5. Private series – James Patterson and Mark Sullivan (read one of the books in this series)
  6. The Maddie Springer series – Gemma Halliday (read the first book)

Overall, though, I am very happy with the books I read this year. Even the dud books had something to recommend them. It was very very hard to come up with a top 6 and bottom 6 list this year.

What were your favorite books/authors this year? Which books were your reading disappointments?
