I've been wanting to try this Meiji Rich Banana 70% bar for a while now, so I was very happy when I found it at the Hyper Japan event a few weeks ago. I bought it from the Tofu Cute stand, and unfortunately it seems to be out of stock at the moment on their website HERE. There is also a 70% Strawberry bar that is still available. This Meiji Rich Banana 70% is described as a chocolate bar made with 70% real banana. It's such an unusual idea!
It was a very hot day when I bought this so it had bloomed a little bit, luckily it didn't seem to affect the flavor. I'm sure I've mentioned before that I'm a fan of banana flavoured chocolates which is slightly foolhardy of me, since more often than not, the banana flavor is too artificial or too weak. I wasn't expecting much from this Meiji bar, it was more curiosity that compelled me to buy it, but surprisingly enough I enjoyed the flavours here. The banana is very well done, it's very strong tasting and authentic. From the ingredients listed there don't appear to be any artificial flavours and it definitely shows through in the end result. The actual "chocolate base" is a bit too sugary for my liking, but it doesn't really have any flavor of it's own, allowing the banana to dominate and linger. I couldn't eat more than a few pieces of this at a time, it's far too sweet, but I still found it tasty - it's a bit like eating a creamy banana ice cream in a chocolate bar format.
