Maui Wowee!

We’ve been back from Maui for a week now. It’s truly beautiful there – I’ve never seen such blue waters! We opted to spend less time hanging out at the beach and more time doing outdoorsy activities. Most of our days involved waking up early. (We got up at 4am one morning to watch the sun rise!)

Our first night, we ate at Mama’s Fish House. And conveniently enough, Mama’s is also a b&b, so we spent a night there too.

The next day was spent traveling the Road to Hana. We got the audio CD tour, which was super helpful. We rented a convertible so we could cruise with the top down for things like the Road to Hana. Unfortunately for us, it was raining on and off all day. We still made the best of it though!

We also found the best coconut candy that day.

Our last stop on the Road to Hana was spent hiking the Pipiwai Trail. We almost turned around before we got to the top, but I’m sure glad we didn’t. My faves from the hike were climbing the Tree of Life, walking through a bamboo forest (it was eerily dark in there!), and seeing the waterfall at the top.

Our second day in Maui was spent on the water. We snorkeled in a coral garden, and got to see humpback whales from our boat! They were only 100 yards away. Apparently all the humpbacks travel to Hawaii for the winter, so whale sightings were pretty frequent (you could even see them from the beach).

Our last day, we got to see the sun rise from Haleakela, Maui’s biggest volcano. The amazing part about being on top of the volcano was getting to see the sun rise from above the clouds.

We got to hike around the volcano after sunrise. Look like Mars, right?

In all, it was a really fun trip. I’m glad we got to hang out with my sister and her boyfriend Jimmy (most of the pics in this post are his!). Now the question is: when can we go back?
