 Masala Chai

Masala chai exactly "mixed-spice tea" it is a flavored tea beverage made by brewing black tea with a fusion of aromatic Indian spices and herbs.Although traditionally prepared by a decoction of green cardamom pods, cinnamon sticks, ground cloves, ground ginger, and black peppercorn together with black tea leaves.
There is no fixed recipe or preparation method for masala chai and many families have their own versions of the tea.

Main Ingredients: Tea leaves, Milk and TeaMasala
Cuisine: GujaratiRecipe Type: BeveragesLevel of Cooking: easy

Ingredients:

For Chai/Tea Masala:
Makes spice mix for 4 cups
  • 2-3 green cardamoms
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 8-10 whole black peppercorn
  • 4 whole cloves
  • 1/2 inch sticks cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon fennel seeds (optional)

For Masala Chai/Tea:

  • 3 cup of water
  • Sugar to taste
  • 1 teaspoon tea leaves or as per required
  • 1 teaspoon or as per required tea masala
  • A cup of milk

Preparation:

For Tea Masala:
  • Dry grind all the masala ingredients to a fine powder.

Method:

  1. Take 3 cups of water in a pan and boil it.
  2. Add Tea leaves and tea masala powder in the boiling water.
  3. Bring it to boil for 4-5 minutes on low flame.
  4. Add milk and sugar.
  5. Boil it for another 4-5 minutes.
  6. Strain the tea by using a fine tea strainer.
  7. serve hot.
