On Tuesday 5th December, Market Grounds officially opened its huge glass doors to serve up a fantastic display of what Perth hospitality has to offer. I was honoured then to have the chance to check out this exciting new venue on Thursday 7th at the official launch party.
With a namesake that salutes its location's original use as a marketplace, Market Grounds sits proudly between Perth's CBD and Northbridge in the latest of united architecture joining the two without the striking interruption of a railway line.
The venue in itself is a pleasure to look at; two storeys of vast open space and high ceilings finished with light wood, broken up by touches of smooth slate gray and swathes of greenery.
Market Grounds is the perfect venue for a multitude of occasions as it contains its very own restaurant and function area, cocktail bar and beer garden - the largest yet in Perth's CBD - each with its own quirks tailored to fit each individual vibe - think your typical pub fare of pizzas and burgers at the bar, to a tapas style restaurant menu for sit down events with friends.
The chefs were working at full steam, pumping out endless amounts of tasty finger food from the open window that provided a proper view right into the huge kitchen. Don't miss the chicken popsticks with Korean yangngyum sauce (available for $17 from the bar menu) - these juicy drumettes were super tasty and definitely did not hold back on the spice. The chicken skewers were our absolute favourite appetisers of the night. Tender chunks of chicken breast were char-grilled to perfection and coated in a sticky sweet glaze broken up by sharp hits of red and green onion that went well with the creamy Japanese-style mayonnaise. While these may not be available to order, the indisputable potential of Market Grounds' menus are no doubt exciting.
Throughout the night we also noticed some lovely unique finishing touches to the venue, such as this gorgeous antique cash register on display.
Market Grounds is located at 10 Telethon Avenue, Perth. They are open Monday to Thursdays from 11am til late and until 1am on Fridays and Saturdays.
