Tell us about the birth of MARG
After I finished by 12th exams I started doing B.Com and also a Fashion course at a private institute.
Once I finished, I worked for 3 years with Mr. Rahul Gupta.
I garnered all my courage to start my label MARG soon after. From the start we have worked only with handlooms.Iinitially we made just stoles, scarves and bags, and these were sold only from the Taj Khazana stores. So, those were the humble beginnings of "MARG by Soumitra"
What is the most memorable memory you have of your design journey?
It is hard to remember and pin point just one, but I thing it would have to be the very first lehenga designed by "MARG by Soumitra". I just made a sketch and a small sample embriodery, the client loved it and we had our first big order. Needless to say we went out and celebrated that day, will never forget the moment.
In the end we spent more money on the lehenga than we made, but till date we are happiest and proudest about that first lehenga.
