Maps.me Pro a paid app for iOS, Android, Blackberry has gone free for everyone. Previously priced at $4.99, Maps.me is one of the best mobile mapping service on par with Google Maps with the feature to even use it while offline. Unlike Google Maps, Maps.me is based on the OpenStreetMap project. But that doesn’t make it less usable, it is as excellent as Google maps and has all the features like search, routes, directions, location bookmakers with an added feature offline mapping.
Russian giant, Mail.ru acquired Maps.me and is pushing it free to expand its growth globally and reach the market where Google Maps dominates when it comes to mapping services.
As it is based on OpenStreeMaps, Mail.ru had also announced Maps.me will be made open source in 2015 to contribute to the OpenStreeMap community.
