Maple Holistics: Vegan Haircare

A food blog writing about shampoo?

Um….. yep.

I know, I know, I’m a guy  and guys could usually care less about what kind of shampoo they use, (providing they still have any hair to wash.)  I’m right there with ya.  If it cleans my hair and doesn’t makes me smell all girly – that’s good enough for me.  And conditioner?  Pffffttt…. what’s that for?

BUT – when I was asked to review some products from Maple Holistics, my wife made it perfectly clear that I was going to say yes and I was going to ask for shampoo.

Yes dear.  Whatever you say dear.

Hey, free stuff right?  Why not?

Well let me tell you dear readers.  This shampoo they sent me really surprised me.

In my package was an 8oz bottle of Argan Oil Shampoo.  I like the fact they used a BPA Free Bottle – nice touch.  There was also an information card that came with it including a lot of words I had never heard before.  Just goes to show you how much guys pay attention to this stuff.

Just the fact that it contains NO animals products or derivatives makes me feel better as a Vegan.  But sulfates?  Parabens?  Is this important?  Apparently to some it is.

Sulfates I found out, are surfactants, the part of your shampoo that makes it all sudsy.

They’re used in car wash cleansers and engine degreasers too…..???  And they are used as a standard in Dermatological Medical Testing to purposely irritate the skin in order to measure healing.   What the heck?

It appears these sulfates not only strip away the dirt and excess oil from your hair, they also remove the natural oils that your hair needs to stay healthy.

The absence of natural oils can cause dry and itchy scalp, dandruff and frizzy hair.

Who knew?

Our Reviews

So given the lack of  all these bad ingredients,  this shampoo sounds amazing, right?  But does it work?  How does it clean?  Is it worth buying?

Well let me tell you the wife and I have been using this shampoo for the last 4-5 days now….

It IS amazing.

I mean I was really surprised – because like I keep saying – I’m a guy – I don’t pay attention to this stuff.  But even “I” could tell a difference.

Squeaky Clean

Our hair ‘squeaks’ when we wash it.  It’s almost as if all those years of residue and buildup from regular commercial shampoos is gone.  My wife said her hair has never felt cleaner

No More Itchy Scalps

I have always had a dry, itchy scalp.  I would drive my wife nuts as would sit and scratch.  I never thought it might be because of the shampoo we were using.  And it wasn’t as if we were using the cheapest brand out there either – the shampoo we were buying was a popular brand, and expensive.  The wife even had a dry itchy spot behind her ear.  Again, no reason as to why.

But after just a few days of using this new shampoo – it’s all gone.  Seriously, both of us, no more itchiness.  That one fact alone tells me we will more than likely keep using this product.

No Perfumes

I also appreciate the fact that this shampoo does not contain a lot of perfume.  In other words – I don’t smell all girly.  And it doesn’t take a lot either – just a small quarter-sized dollop is enough to create more suds than any of those commercial brands.

All in all, we like it.

Good job Maple Holistics – you just gained 2 new customers.  And thank you for the free trials.

Where to Buy

So dear readers, where do you buy products from Maple Holistics?

As far as I can tell they are only available from Amazon.Com.  So I am going to put a link to their Amazon Page at the bottom of this post.

And, to keep this all legal and stuff, I do have to tell you this link will be an affiliate link.  Which means that if you click on it and buy something from Maple Holistics on their Amazon Page – I will make a profit.

Trust me – I won’t be retiring from this.  But I do have to tell you.

There you go.  I also know Maple Holistics will give out free samples to people who are willing to write honest reviews, so you might check that out too.

Hope you give them a try, my wife and I are truly pleased with their product.
