Map Making with Construction Toys

One of my favorite books about early childhood education is Playful Learning by Mariah Bruehl.Such a a great resource! This idea is from the book.
Defne is not keen on playing with  her wooden blocks unless I encourage her. When I asked her if she would like to do a model of her own bedroom, she got very excited. 
I was delighted to see her miniature bedroom complete with the bunk bed from the dolls house and some toys on the floor ! This early map making activity develops spatial thinking and gets children to think about scaling as well. Defne had great fun and now frequently builds rooms with the blocks.
