Are you sitting down, makeup enthusiasts? Paris-based cosmetic brand MAKE UP FOR EVER (known for its highly pigmented products and unparalleled quality) has decided to head south and open a boutique in Dallas, Texas! (Don’t worry, non-Dallasites. Future US stores are on the horizon.) So why is this so exciting? First, you can finally stop stalking their products at Sephora, as the freestanding store will carry all of your favorite MAKE UP FOR EVER products. Second, (and this one is huge), while Sephora carries select MAKE UP FOR EVER products, their boutique will carry over 1,500 of their products. (I just did the math and that’s enough makeup to keep even the most committed makeup junkie user busy through 2017.)
While the store is slated to open on June 1st, 2012 I got to take an sneak peak and, oh my, did this oh-so-chic boutique exceed my beauty-loving expectations. First, the store’s “backstage” design makes you feel nothing short of a rock star. Next, I should emphasize that this isn’t any ‘ole makeup store. Just like their cosmetics the boutique is truly avant-garde, featuring a number of interactive tools and services to meet all your makeup dreams needs. Okay, moving on to the ‘best for last’ stuff. Queue the drum roll, please. Of their leading-edge features and offerings, here are a few of the salacious highlights:
Smart Board ~ an interactive touch screen that can be used to create customized make up designs and face charts. You can draw on the computerized white board using fingertips or a designated pen. (Seriously, how cool is that?) This tool allows artists to animate application techniques and tips so you can easily re-create the look all by yourself.
Video Make Up Lesson Recording Studio ~ the boutique features an enclosed room where consumers can record a personalized lesson with one of the Academy trained Pro artists. The makeup station mirror has a built-in video camera that will record the artist giving you a step-by-step makeup lesson. Worried you’ll forget the how-to? The recorded lesson is put on a USB for you to take home.
Make Up School ~ a series of interactive, personalized makeup sessions are offered to educate consumers on application techniques and how to achieve specific looks. The artists do half of your face, and then help you to do the other so you learn how to get the look on your own. You can choose from focused lessons highlighting one particular feature, or build a custom lesson by selecting the complexion, eye and lip service of your choice. Lesson prices range from $40 to $120, and each lesson purchase is fully redeemable in product valued at the cost of the lesson.
Custom Foundation Blending ~ the boutique offers a special custom blending service where their artists mix a clients’ unique shades of Face & Body Liquid Make Up to ensure it perfectly matches their skin tone. Each client’s personal shade is kept on file so they can come back to replenish when needed.
iPads ~ the shop is equipped with iPads (that’s right…iPads) that provide access to MAKE UP FOR EVER how-to videos and inspirational face charts. (James Bond meets makeup how-to…genius.)
