Books I Bought

Mailbox Monday! Title: Fables Volume 1 Author: Bill Willingham

This is a story of a group of fairy tale characters exiled from their mythical homelands and forced into a secret existence in modern day America. I cannot wait to read this as it looks and sounds sumptuous.

Title: Eating Animals Author: Jonathan Safran Foer
If this book was by any other author I don't think I would've thought to read it. But I love JSF and I love the way he writes so much that I know I will like this. It's non fiction and talks about factory farming and commercial fisheries and the way we eat animals in general. Sure to be shocking.

Title: Charlotte's Web Author: E.B. White
I have already read quite a lot of this book and it has rekindled my love! I read it when I was younger but it was a long time ago and I couldn't remember details very well! So cute but also depicts real life on a farm and doesn't molly coddle children.

Title: Confessions of an Ugly Stepsister Author: Gregory Maguire

I have quite a collection of Maguire novels now! This one is Cinderella told through the eyes of an ugly stepsister...and that's all I need to know. Already sold.

Title: The Year of the Flood Author: Margaret Atwood

I don't know much about this book as I believe it is the sequel to 'Oryx and Crake' and I haven't read that yet so I didn't want to spoil anything! Love the cover though.

Mailbox Monday!
Title: The White Tiger Author: Aravind Adiga This is a darkly comical view of modern day life in India. It won awards all over the place which is why I thought I'd pick it up!
Mailbox Monday!

Title: V Author: Thomas Pynchon I haven't read 'Gravity's Rainbow' yet but I definitely will be at some point. This is Pynchon's debut novel so I thought maybe I could read this first- it is about the exploits of an ex US navy soldier...and knowing Pynchon probably so much more. NetGalley/ Edelweiss E-Books!

Title: The Long Earth Authors: Terry Pratchett and Stephen Baxter

I have been so excited about this book for AGES and when I saw it on Edelweiss I was hoping so badly that I would be accepted and I wasss and I did a happy dance. Advanced E-Copy of a Terry Pratchett book. YES.

Title: The Wild Princess

Author: Mary Hart Perry
I thought this book looked really cute and interesting, and the cover is pretty. It is about one of Queen Victoria's daughters who was more rebellious than the others and her marriage was surrounded by scandal. I'm hoping for some PROPER scandal.

Title: The Selection Author: Kiera Cass
I am a little annoyed at myself for wanting to read this because of certain events surrounding this author but I do want to give it a go because it looks fun and I'm in the mood for something silly and 'A Cinderella Story' esque! It seems to have divided opinion so I'll be interested to see where I am!

Title: Advent Author: James Treadwell

The synopsis reminded me so much of Harry Potter that I had to request it! Magic is rising in the world again. And a young boy, Gavin, thinks he is just a city boy with parents who hate him, and who can see things he knows no-one will believe, boards a train to Cornwall. When he gets there, there is no-one there to meet him.

Title: Life is Short and Desire Endless Author: Patrick Lapeyre This is a love triangle story. It is not the side plot, it is the main focus. Which intrigues me! The woman is American, the two men vying for her are French and English.
Mailbox Monday!

Title: Starring Me Author: Krista McGee

This book is about a girl who is told she's auditioning to star in a new teen variety show. I know nothing besides that. I think it will be a nice quick read when I'm in the mood for something like that!
