Purely old-school influences aren’t often heard from bands who make their home in Brooklyn’s land of chillwave and indie, but this tune from Mail The Horse (@mailthehorse) has a refreshingly original yet retro feel. “Put Your Shoulders On” begins with arpeggiated, slightly out of tune guitar chords, but grows to include harmonized vocals accented with a touch of a Southern drawl, a honky-tonk piano and a persistent bass drum. The song ends in completely maxed out rock-and-roll overdrive.
Part of the band’s most recent release, Gates Motel b/w Put Your Shoulders On, the track is available for download on Mail The Horse’s bandcamp page. Since the band was formed in Dover last fall, they’re about to turn one year old. Happy birthday Mail The Horse, here’s to many more!
