Norwegian post-metal band Magnify The Sound are skirting the fringes of ambient and pastoral soundscapes on their new album Searching for a quiet place. Looking for some peace of mind during long walks in the forests, they tried to get away from the crippling anxiety that is looking for a way to get them down. The darkness is never far away, but keeping it at bay by referencing almost unrecognisable traditional folk and drum rhythms makes it an immersing listening experience.
More layers reveal themselves after each play, plus the sonics and separation were treated with utmost care. Searching for a quiet place is a maze without a map or definite goal. Wandering around in silent wonder is the best way to get a hold on these compositions, that deserve to be enjoyed in one, undisturbed sitting.
