Magic Lantern: High-Tech Keylogger Software

Posted on the 21 August 2013 by Janeandrew01

After the arrest of crime boss Nicodemo S. Scarfo, in 1999, the FBI felt the need for a more comprehensive monitoring solution. This led to the creation of Magic Lantern – powerful keylogger software that could be remotely installed, without the user’s knowledge. The software monitored the target computer’s Web browsing history, logged usernames and passwords and stored IP addresses. The tool primarily used e-mail attachments to penetrate a target system. They allowed it unrestricted access to the systems, under their protection. Our infographic has a lot more details.
