It may have been the color (self described as Nairobi blue). It could have been the plunging neckline. It may have been the ethereal flowing bodice. It could have simply been the natural happy glow that exudes off of her. Whatever it was; the Oscar winner for best supporting actress, Lupita Nyong’o, was clearly the biggest winner of the night.
From the moment she stepped out of her limo in her pale blue Prada gown, everyone knew it was her night. Even if she walked away empty handed she had already won of all our hearts. Her positive outlook can do nothing else but make one smile.
When Lupita won her Oscar, her speech was inspirational through and through, but she said one thing that really stuck with me as major encouragement, “No matter where you are from, your dreams are valid”.
We all get discouraged when road blocks prevent us from achieving our goals as quickly as we would like. Sometimes, it is the comparison between ourselves and other people we know who are shooting for the same dreams that disappoints us. There are also just those moments where you hit a metaphoric rock and you have no idea where up is.
Let Lupita be your inspiration fashionistas! It does not matter what your walk of life is. It does not matter how many adversities come in your way. The only person standing in front of your dreams is you. Follow your dreams because they truly are valid.
