Dutch guitarist Lukas Dikker has been sitting on a collection of instrumentals for nearly a decade. Recorded shortly after the release of his Owls album, this second release by his LUIK project, Outrar serves as a belated companion piece. He flies solo on this one, stacking layer upon layer of guitar to tell stories without words.
It must have been a liberating experience to explore sounds without the constraints of being a sideman in someone else's band. No one frowned at throwing in a jazz lick, channeling Mike Oldfield, or sumptuous use of echo and reverb. This a guitarist's guitar album, making them fell in love with their instrument again and go with the flow as unexpected notes and chord changes make themselves heard.
