Fresh on the heels of their explosive single, “Doreen”, Lucius just gifted us with another new song along with its stunning video. “Tempest” is more of what we already adore — lush, melodic harmonies paired with their perpetually potent pop sensibility. The video features Holly Laesig and Jess Wolfe singing face-to-face (as they often do in their live show), austere and bathed in stark shadows, allowing us to zero in on the compelling nature of the song itself. Dark synths and patient verses are punctuated with a kinetic beg and response chorus — “Gotta believe when I say I know. (Gotta work it out, it out!)” The best part of the video is when the pair turn and look us in the eyes during the intentionally dismal bridge, then, turning to look back at each other, there’s a breakthrough. The tone changes dramatically, those dulcet harmonies once again reminding us that Lucius just doesn’t know how to write a bad song.
We’ve got big love for Lucius and can’t wait for their full-length to finally be unleashed — Wildewoman drops October 15th via Mom + Pop! Pre-order the album and check their tour dates over at their website.
