You may remember my State String Art project from last year. It is a favorite of mine and people who visit our home always love it! Brent’s boss just moved into a new home and I knew exactly what we would give the couple for a housewarming gift!

Louisiana was significantly more difficult than Texas. The bottom right half of the state is all marshes and jagged edges. I did my very best to follow the state’s shape.
Brent cut the particle board to 16 x 20 inches. I painted it black, printed off my enlarged Louisiana map and got to nailing. I took black finishing nails and placed them around the perimeter. Brent had to special order the gold string off Amazon, I couldn’t find it anywhere! (He didn’t mind because he is addicted to ordering things off Amazon with his free shipping
)Brent and I knew gold would be the perfect color. This couple loves the Saints and they love their home town of New Orleans.
I originally thought I would need the rectangle sized board for the state, but quickly realized Louisiana is a little shorter than I anticipated. I used the extra space at the bottom to add the couple’s last name and their beloved Fleur-De-Lis.
I printed the name and shapes using PicMonkey. I cut them out using scissors and my Exacto knife (I really need to invest in a Cricut!). I traced around them using a gold paint pen and then colored in the rest. I am so glad I chose to use a paint pen versus paint and a brush, the pen made the whole process a breeze!
You can customize this String Art for any state, color combination, monogram, etc. Really make it your own for a WOW piece of art for under $10.
