Look Stylish Stay Warm

By Reasonstodress

The Reason I Dressed

I mentioned that we were out with some friends and decided to go to an outdoor aperitivo (we went to the Mon Cafè , see it here).

It is usually 10 degrees in Modena these days!   I know boo hoo hoo cry me a river …. I LOVE ITALY #noshame ! My sister in Canada can climb on her roof with the amount of snow that’s come down this winter, and when she goes out in the morning to start her car the thermostat reads -18 celsius (- 0.4 farenheit).

But it is humid, so you actually need to dress warmly and cover up well because sometimes it feels much colder than it actually is.

Here I am in one of my favorite real winter looks, black tailored coat, new Chelsea leather boots (I have a story about these) and a big, huge, massive oversized scarf that I like to call the “blanket”.

“Prendi Freddo”

My scarf is by the brand Best Behavior, it is actually my husbands, that he bought a few years back at a trendy boutique in New York for an undisclosed amount of money.  It is so great, but it just looked silly on him.  He loved it, in the store, but could never seem to get comfortable wearing it out in public.

I think he got caught up with being in New York and let his style guard down.  But I’m so glad he bought it though, because shortly after I *borrowed* it …and subsequently made it my own.

This thing is huge!  It is also so warm, and protects my delicate shoulders and neck from getting the dreaded Italian “draft”.  Italians fear getting a “draft” otherwise known as “prendere freddo” taking cold, with ALL OF THEIR BEING.  They believe that a draft of cold air is the root of EVERY ailment on the planet.

If your neck and shoulders are uncovered in the evenings from september to June and you “prendi freddo” it is quite possible that you could get a head cold, rheumatism, arthritis, back aches, a migraine, joint pain, a stomach ache, a sore throat, a fever, have a bad dream, get an ear ache or get audited by the government (kidding, but that is their REAL worst fear!).

Needless to say, with this bad baby around my neck NO ONE stops me in the streets and tells me to cover up or else I will “prendi freddo”.   My grandmother would approve of this scarf….oh and it is totally trending for Fall/Winter ’13/’14!

My Shoes

I’ve bought these shoes twice! The first time I saw them on sale  here for under 50 euros.  They are real leather Chelsea ankle boots with a rubber sole, which I actually PREFER instead of a leather sole because they are less slippery on wet surfaces.

I snatched them up but alas they were HUGE so I returned them.  But then, two weeks later I was searching for a pair of Chelsea boots again and there they were  IN MY SIZE! (destiny)

I’ve gone to bed in these shoes, that’s how comfortable they are.
