London topped Tokyo, New York and Paris to become the top grossing city for shopping in 2010, based on a study of twenty two leading worldwide shopping locations by Britain’s Centre for Retail Research.
The research, commissioned by internet shopping comparing site Kelkoo, found out London recorded 64.2 billion pounds of non-food retail transactions in 2010.
“The answer to London’s achievement seems to be the high quality and volume
London’s 26,000 shops have 138 of the world’s 250 top retail labels, in comparison with typically 90 throughout the cities surveyed. It draws in approximately 14.1 million international tourists, some 4 million above its closest competitor.
London have also been the main city for online shopping, having 9.9 billion pounds of revenue in 2010.
Tokyo is a close 2nd in the overall rankings, having overall non-food retail revenue of 61.4 billion pounds, in front of New York on 47 billion and Paris on 46.6 billion.
