Swedish quartet, Little Dragon (@littledragon) spent Friday night captivating an over-capacity audience at Terminal 5. Surprisingly early to stage, frontwoman Yukimi Nagano reeled the crowd in with several extended renditions of tracks from Machine Dreams as well as a host of tunes from their newest release, Ritual Union. Using their trademark metronomic synth-filled charm, they had the New York City flock pleading for their sway-worthy beats.
Rhythmic as always, Little Dragon presented nothing short of a lustful set, but the piles of half-buzzed, sweaty, swarming clubsters made it difficult to fully groove. Regardless of a tightly packed and overheated venue, Yukimi’s gentle movement accompanied by the destabilizing effects of Hakan Wirenstrand’s keyboards, Erik Bodin’s deep percussion and the foundational bass of Fredrik Wallin came through in a tight yet seemingly improvisational sound.
