We’re digging hard on Tall Tall Trees’ latest single from his upcoming EP, The Seasonal. We got to hear the solo version of “Picture Picture” a few months ago when we did our On The Boat series, but the recorded version, with the help of his longtime music pal Kishi Bashi, is a different creature. Seen side by side, the two seem an unlikely pair, but place their work next to each other, and the collaboration feels manufactured by the cosmos. Where Kishi Bashi’s avant-pop is violin-based, Tall Tall Trees’ psych-folk is banjo-based, more accurately, “banjotron”-based. Banjotron in that it’s an electric banjo installed with a light show, a multi-purpose tool in the hands of mad banjo genius, Mike Savino (TTT). Check out that sweet pop rhythm underneath a slightly creepy, yet highly relatable story of becoming “friends” with someone you don’t know all that well via social media. “I wanna kick it with you/I wanna kick it with you right now/I think I’m falling in love with a picture.” It’s gorgeously lush and fun to listen to, and we can’t wait to hear the rest of the The Seasonal EP on December 2.
