Lights x MYTH, Dead End Album Review

By Phjoshua @thereviewsarein

, the multi-talented, award-winning, inspirational, firestorm of an artist, and she's back to perk up our pandemic times with an album of new jams and remixes in Dead End.

Along with her collaborator MYTH, Lights jumps right in with the title track off the top plus Outdoor Sports and Batshit as new releases before getting to five remixes that hit the spot. The electronic dance vibes are direct and in your face, with solid and shiny production that makes me want to have some sort of dance party while I learn the words to the songs.

When I first heard Dead End was coming, I heard about the remixes, so to find out that there were new songs included too was a bonus. So, if you're looking for a bonus too before you get to new twists on Lights favourites, hit play for Dead End official music video and start there.

Dead End - Lights x MYTH

Note: Between throwing knives and being a mom and an overall badass, I have no idea where Lights found the time to work on this music or anything else. Good on her!

Like every other artist releasing new music these days, we have no idea when Lights will have the chance to perform her new songs for a crowd of fans that are in a dance party mood of their own, but we hope it's sooner rather than later and that the crowd really is ready to move. And when she comes to town, we'll be ready for her.

What we get on Dead End (aside from fun) is a reminder that she's a hell of a writer, singer, and has the artistic flexibility and imagination to make something like this happen. And instead of this feeling like an easy release of remixes (which it could have), it feels like an entirely new project that deserves to be treated as such.

As she comes off of her JUNO Award win for Dance Recording of the Year ( Love Me, with Felix Cartel), Lights has just shown everyone that she should be back in the category again next year. We expect her to be there and will be surprised if she isn't.

The remixes. Okay, these are just fun to listen to. It's not just small little tweaks and a remix label. This is reimagining and producing and presentation, and it's a good time from We Were Here at track #4 to Savage when the album wraps up at track #8.

And look, I know it might be the most basic take in the world, but I was really excited about the idea of the Up We Go remix and I wasn't disappointed AT ALL when I hit play the first time or the more than a couple times after that. I found myself trying to sing along and dance and nod my head generally just being all in and happy as it played for 2:31.

Now it's your turn.

Up We Go (Remix) Lights x Myth

Dead End is fun, and I'm not the only one that's going to say that. The new songs (Dead End, Outdoor Sports, Batshit) are great additions to Lights' library and the remixes offer new ways to experience and appreciate songs that are already beloved by her fanbase.

If you're looking for something to get you moving or to fill the room with sound or just pump up the atmosphere around you, hit play on this 28-minute album and let it right from the top to the bottom and experience it for yourself.
