The third release from Vancouver’s Lightning Dust finds them exploring their dark side by combining prominent synths and R&B beats to create a gorgeous gothtronica labyrinth of a record. And speaking of darkwave, one of the first on the witch house scene, oOooO, released his first full-length this week, filled with brooding minor-key effects and sprawling, eerie soundscapes.

Feeling more in the mood for rock? Never fear, Chicago’s teen grunge superheroes, The Orwells, and straight up indie rock masters, Smith Westerns, have your back. The Orwells’ brought an incredibly fresh, youthful brand of garage rock and angsty grievance with their latest EP, the title track of which was co-produced by TV on the Radio’s Dave Sitek. Smith Westerns dropped their third and more mature-sounding album. Sweet and savory, both are fantastic listens.

Neither electronic nor rock, Wise Blood patches all of our favorite genres together with his signature, trippy brilliance, making id one of the weirdest, most compelling records you’re going to hear this year. And finally, another genre escapist is Baby Alpaca, who’s releasing his first EP today, one that’s flat out impressive. It’s both dreamy and grounded — something you absolutely need in your life
