That dreaded, forbidden ‘E’ word. I have never been one for exercise as a whole but after a recent dip in my self confidence, I have decided that it is about time to make a change…
(NOTE: That picture was taken two months ago)
I am not typically an unhealthy person, but I’m not uber healthy either. I’m not a fan of salad, which sounds stupid but, hey, I’m being honest here. When I say I’m not a fan, in fact I really mean that I don’t eat it. Like nada. Not for moi. Yet I am a sucker for a sweet treat but I am trying really hard in being resilient when it comes to gouging on them. I mean, I gave up chocolate for Lent and that was an achievement in itself!
I think that the last few months of University has led to me being sat a lot more and comfort eating slightly. Don’t get me wrong, my figure hasn’t vastly changed and I have not put on a great deal of weight, I’m simply just not as toned as I once was and it’s bringing me down quite a bit. When I look in to the mirror, I don’t like what I see and seeing photos of the tops of my arms makes me very uncomfortable indeed. So I have decided that I am going to do something about it.
Tonight as I’m writing this I have just been out for a run. Like a big girl’s run. IN PUBLIC. EYES ON ME. When I say run, I really mean jog, but it’s all the same, right? I haven’t run in public for around 4/5 years so it was a pretty big deal for me. I just really wanted to do it, but my main concern was what people would think, all of those cars whizzing past and dog walkers passing by – it had me petrified. But with John Newman’s latest album buzzing in my ears, I found myself not having a care in the world and I actually got cheered on by two little old ladies, it must have been my absolute red beamer of a face!
So my first run was 3.5K in 27 minutes, which is probably horrendous to all you avid runners out there but at the end of the day I’m pretty new to the game and not forgetting that I’m also asthmatic! (I’m not making excuses, I promise!) My aim is to run a few times a week and try get that run down to 20 minutes, then I’ll up my distance and do the same again.
Hopefully I’ll be able to keep this up as I really want to get into exercising more. I am still practicing Yoga as and when I can, but I needed something a little bit more high energy at times. Any tips? Throw them right my way – Lord knows I need ‘em!
