Lifestyle | Introducing #ThisNorthernGirlCan

#ThisNorthernGirlCanIf there's one thing I am proud of, it's my hometown. I'm proud to come from the small, industrial town that is Middlesbrough in the North East...
I'm also super proud to be a woman. So when a rather, ahem, bullcrap article was published by the Daily Mail (am I surprised?) last year announcing that Middlesbrough was the worst place to live and grow up as a young girl, my eyes rolled hard. My reaction? No. Just, no.
I mean, Middlesbrough has definitely had its fair share and then some of bad press. Giving it a stigma of a town with a drugged up, dragged up community under a cloud of industrial smoke, I find it so unfair.
Shortly after this article of lies was released, I seen that my good friend Sharon from The Northern Niche shared a blog post admirably named Don't Feel Sad for Boro Girls. From this, the hashtag #ThisNorthernGirlCan was born.
I jumped on it immediately and was thrilled that I could share my thoughts on the matter, as it was (and still is!) something that I feel wholeheartedly passionate about. It was one of those things that completely lit a fire in my stomach and made me want to fist pump the air.
Last week, Sharon and myself met and over a rose lemonade and a classic D&B we discussed how we could further this. Lets just say that there were a whole host of ideas thrown about and we took the first step in making this come to life, making this be something. The likes of meetups, workshops and events were discussed, all to empower and educate Northern girls and women.
So here we are on International Women's Day, introducing the #ThisNorthernGirlCan Movement, welcoming women of all ages, of all backgrounds to be part of something new and exciting.
