Library Loot: April 22

Posted on the 22 April 2014 by Cheekymeeky

badge-4 Library Loot is a weekly event co-hosted by Claire from The Captive Reader and Linda from Silly Little Mischief that encourages bloggers to share the books they’ve checked out from the library. If you’d like to participate, just write up your post-feel free to steal the button-and link it using the Mr. Linky any time during the week. And of course check out what other participants are getting from their libraries.

It’s been ages since I did this meme. I have been checking books out of the library but rarely in bulk and so I hardly ever mention them on my blog.

This time though Snubnose and I checked out six books that both of us are really pleased with.

I have neglected my Classics reading in favor of the latest and greatest of late, so with this library trip I am dipping my toe back into classics again with To Have and Have Not by Ernest Hemingway and Captains Courageous by Rudyard Kipling.

I think these are the perfect books for summer – not long reads but still interesting and challenging. Plus I love that cover on the Hemingway book.

After selecting these two books, I wandered off to the Atwood section intending to pick up Oryx and Crake – a book I’ve been long wanting to read, but as I went to pick it up, I saw Bluebeard’s Egg and couldn’t resist taking that with me instead. Bluebeard’s Egg is a collection of short stories by Margaret Atwood. All the stories explore the emotions and betrayals within relationships.

Envious Casca by Georgette Heyer is one of Heyer’s mysteries and in all probability a reread. I’m pretty sure I have read all of Heyer’s books but I haven’t the faintest recollection of this one, so for all intents and purposes, it feels fresh.

Snubnose chose two new series books by new to her authors.

Both her choices are quite new and a bit advanced for her. The New Girl is the second book in the Allie Finkle’s Rules for Girls series by Meg Cabot and seems a fun read. Snubnose is definitely enjoying the book so far.

I have yet to browse through the The Vampire’s Vacation by Ron Roy (which is a part of an A-Z mystery series) and check if it is suitable reading for Snubnose or not. I have a feeling it was just a chance fancy and that she won’t actually get around to reading the book. It’s so not her style.

So, these are the books that we got last week. Have you read any of them? What books have you recently checked out from the library?
