After Samsung’s surprising announcement of world’s first curved smartphone, LG has finally unveiled a competitor, LG G Flex which the company calls as the “real” curved smartphone. Unlike Samsung’s horizontally curved Galaxy Round, LG G Flex has a vertically curved design “to follow the contour of the face.”

“The vertically curved design of the LG G Flex reduces the distance between one’s mouth to the microphone when the device is held against the ear, as traditional telephone handsets used to,” LG stated on the press release. “The LG G Flex employs a curvature arc that is optimized for the average face, to deliver improved voice and sound quality.”

According to the company, this so called Self Healing coating on the back cover is capable of repairing simple scratches within minutes. G Flex also features buttons on the back for the camera and adjusting volume, just as seen on LG G2 smartphone.

With 6-inch HD display, along with 2.26 GHz Quad-Core Snapdragon 800 CPU and 2GB of RAM, LG G Flex gets all the features of Google’s slightly old Android Jelly Bean 4.2.2 OS. The handset also packs a 13-MP rear camera and weighs in at 177g.

LG has announced the new banana phone to be available in Korea starting in November and promised to announce the global availability soon.
