Let’s Take Back the Holidays!

It seems like every year, the holidays get more and more commercialized. Stores start putting up Christmas decorations in October, and it's not uncommon to see Halloween candy on sale before the 31st of August. It can be hard to escape the feeling that corporate America is taking over our holidays and turning them into opportunities to make a quick buck.

But it doesn't have to be this way! There are plenty of ways to enjoy the holidays without spending a lot of money. In this blog post, we'll explore some of the ways you can take back the holidays and celebrate without breaking the bank.

1. Make your own decorations.

One of the best parts of the holidays is getting to decorate your home and make it feel festive. But you don't need to spend a lot of money on store-bought decorations. Get creative and make your own! You can find DIY tutorials for just about any holiday online. And if you're not the crafty type, there's nothing wrong with keeping it simple and using things you already have around the house. A few strategically placed candles can go a long way.

2. Plan a potluck dinner.

Sharing a meal with loved ones is one of the best parts of the holidays. But if you're not careful, holiday meals can end up costing a small fortune. And eat up way too much of your time. A great way to save money is to plan a potluck dinner, where everyone brings their favorite dish to share. Not only will this save you money, but it will also give you a chance to try out some new recipes!

3. Go for a walk instead of exchange gifts.

One of the most stressful parts of the holidays is figuring out what gifts to give your loved ones. If you're on a tight budget, consider skipping gifts altogether and doing something together instead. Going for a walk or hike is a great way to get some exercise and enjoy each other's company without spending any money at all. Or if you live in an area with snow, why not go sledding or build a snowman? The options are endless!
