At the IFA 2015, renowned tech-giant Lenovo expanded its footprint in the mainstream market with two spectacular beauties Vibe P1 and Vibe P1m. Enhanced with powerful batteries, the two evenly priced smartphones are touted as one of the finest smartphones in the budget segment and are expected to offer something better than previous Lenovo phones. The elder member of this duo Vibe P1 perfectly in the sub-20k price bracket, while the younger sibling Vibe P1m takes a dig against leading players in the budget segment. The phone has a lot on offer, and considering the amount of hype it has created in last few months, we are giving a detailed review of the smartphone with a special focus on its design, performance, and battery life. Design of Vibe P1m
The blame goes to battery, but practically, Vibe P1m is fairly thick on the waistline. The device measures at 9.3mm, and feels a little big and chunky while carrying around. From the front, it looks similar to Lenovo A6000, and from the back, it endows some little improvements here and there, which essentially includes the metal plate placed around the camera lens and a nano coating for protection against rain and water spills. The back panel of the device is made from plastic, but it gives a better look and feel with the subtle touch of faux aluminum finish. And, apart from usual placement from volume and power buttons, the phone also includes a new battery switch that helps in switching towards power saving without any snags!
Display
Lenovo Vibe P1m sports a 5-inch In-plane switching (IPS) display with a generous screen resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels. The device gives a nice visual experience, and creates an ideal ecosystem for work and play, even in broad sunlight. The colors look sharp, the text is crisp, and the viewing angles are absolutely perfect. So, on whole, the display of this handset is a great choice for watching your favorite sitcoms, but sometimes, it can trouble you with smudges and fingerprints.

In terms of performance, Lenovo Vibe P1m looks disappointing, but that's only on paper. The dual SIM based device features MediaTek's 64-bit MT6753P quad-core processor paired with 2GB RAM, and delivers seamless performance without any lags or glitches. Throughout the testing process, the 1GHz processor of this handset did not stutter or malfunctioned at any point. In fact, to be precise, it handled HD movie playback, web-browsing and social networking effectively with more than 10 third party apps running in the background.
Even the gaming experience on this handset was splendid. From basic to high-end, all gamers were running smoothly without any lag or major thermal issue. Games like Asphalt 8 and FIFA 16 worked smoothly, and the temperature stayed just around 40 degrees.

Camera
The camera setup of Vibe P1m includes the same 8-megapixel rear autofocus shooter that was incorporated with the A6000 Plus. The device gives bright and well-detailed images in natural lighting, but loses some legibility in lowlight environments. Capturing decent frames in lowlight looks tough on this smartphone, as the images get a little blur and washed out while capturing in dark room. However, you can easily capture decent daylight snaps with some minor issues like, autofocus taking more time to adjust and high-contrast ratio.
The 5-megapixel front-facing snapper of Vibe P1m also performs impressively. It gives sharp selfies and is fairly better than other budget phones. Overall, things have improved in the camera department, but a lot is still needed from Lenovo to take on the camera efficiency of Micromax, Xiaomi, and other budget players.
Software
On the software front, Lenovo Vibe P1m runs Android 5.1 Lollipop with company's custom Vibe UI on the top. The Vibe UI featured on the handset looks fairly improved and slick. It's cleaner, faster, and most importantly better than the custom UIs featured on other budget phones. The home screen is devoid of an app launcher, and the custom notification center includes a bunch of toggles for accessing different functionalities in a matter of minutes. The setting panel is similar to the one featured on stock Android, but here Lenovo is offering a slew of new options, transition effects, and much more. Overall, you'll get a nice user-experience, and will get disappointed for ditching TouchWiz or Stock Android.
Battery
The biggest USP of Lenovo P1m is its prolific battery life. Despite featuring 4G connectivity on both SIM card slots, Vibe P1m offers sufficient juice with its humongous 3900 mAh battery. It easily offers more than one day backup and makes up a perfect package for on-the-go users who don't prefer running around with a power-bank or a wall-charger.
Lenovo mentioned about support for fast-charging, but in real, the handset took complete two and a half hours to fill up from 0 to 100%. However, the new battery saver mode that can be toggled using the new slider switch comes pretty handy. It takes the phone into an innovative lite mode where only essential apps work.
Verdict
With no major downside and a tempting price tag, Lenovo Vibe P1m offers full value for money. The dual-SIM based device is really impressive, and for 8k, the entire package cannot get any better by any means.
Available exclusively on Flipkart, Lenovo Vibe P1m makes up a great deal under 10k. It features a decent design, great performance, and mammoth battery life, and poses some real threat to all budget players including the heavily hyped Yu Yuphoria and Redmi 2 Prime. It's a perfect phone for all budget users, and promises a lot more than moderate performance with standard battery-backup for half a day. Work or play, it will stay up and running throughout the day!
