Lay It On Me: Dylan Scott Boots & Hearts Preview [Interview]

By Phjoshua @thereviewsarein

Dylan Scott ProfileDylan Scott’s stock in on the rise. And that’s the only city reference you’re going to get. Scott is a good country boy from Bastrop, Louisiana with the kind of deep voice that country radio covets and an attitude that is going to take him a long way.

The 24 year old Scott is packed with southern boy charm and isn’t afraid to work in the 2015 country music landscape. His Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and YouTube presence is winning him fans daily – and it’s that work, paired with solid singles (Makin’ This Boy Go Crazy, Mmm, Mmm, Mmm, Lay It On Me) that has put him on the radar – and brings him to Boots and Hearts 2015!

As Dylan gets ready to come up to Burl’s Creek Event Park this summer we caught up with him for a little Q&A to see what else is coming up for him, what he’s listening to and his country music hero.

Check it out…

Q. You’ve got over 17,500 YouTube subscribers and about 3 million video views, nearly 75,000 Likes on Facebook and more than 15,000 Followers on Twitter… how important is being active on social media to you as an emerging artist?

Dylan Scott Tractor
A. It’s huge! I do all of my social media and it helps me as an artist know what people want to see or hear and I can take that and add my own twist. I really enjoy it.

Q. Thomas Rhett got some play online recently with a cover of Bruno Mars’ When I Was Your Man, but we know you took a pretty awesome shot at it in June 2013 – Are there any other cross-genre covers have you had fun playing with and putting together?

A. I just did an Ed Sheeran cover of “Thinking Out Loud”! Such a great song and the response has been incredible. In less that 24 hours we had over 8k likes, over 1k likes and more than 800,000 views in just 3 days on Facebook. Word of mouth and country music fans are awesome!

Note: Dylan’s Facebook post with the Thinking Out Loud video is at the bottom of the post, check it out!

Q. Music runs in your family a little bit, but what are you trying to do as an artist to set yourself apart from your dad and what he accomplished in his career?

A. The music business is way beyond what it was when my dad was in Nashville. So everything I’m doing is different from what he did. Social media, the sound of country music, the fans, etc. I’m just being me, but if it wasn’t for him moving to Nashville, sleeping in his truck, and paving a path for himself, I wouldn’t have had a path. I’m blessed beyond measure.

Q. Use a few words to tell us what Keith Whitley means to you as inspiration as an artist.

A. He is my Elvis! His voice was pure and his songs had depth and meaning.

Q. And if you could pick 1 Keith Whitley song to cover at every show, which one would you choose?

A. We play “When You Say Nothing At All” every night. Such a great song and everyone knows it.

Q. We’ve talked to a bunch of Canadian artists about playing Boots & Hearts, but what’s it feel like for you to be coming up here and playing for a lot of new faces and hopefully, new Canadian fans?

A. I’ve heard so much about this festival from people on Twitter and Facebook and to say we’re playing in Canada is awesome! We are really looking forward to it.

Q. Any other awesome plans for 2015 that you want to share with us… New music, new album, new videos, tour dates?

Dylan Scott Lay It On Me
A. We are in the recording studio now and will have new music in the next 60 days or so. We have a really strong touring schedule throughout the spring and summer with new dates being added every day. As soon as the next single is picked, we will shoot a full video for it so we really have a full schedule.

Q. Let’s get to know your taste a little bit now, if we got a peek at your playlist what 3 artists would we find on your most played list?

A. You’d hear everything from Drake to Maroon 5 to Keith Whitley.

Q. Last one, in 50 words or less, tell us what the fans at Boots & Hearts can expect from your set when you walk out on stage this August?

A. From the first note, a lot of energy, a lot of smiles, and a lot of fun! We can’t wait!

Big thanks to Dylan for playing along, we can’t wait to see him up on the Boots and Hearts stage this summer.
