Last Month of Summer

We have exactly one month of summer left. Is it just me, or does summer get shorter as you get older? It sure left longer and a lot more fun when I was younger. <Be still my nostalgic heart>

The most exciting thing that happened to me this summer was: French Toast. I discovered at the Outliers, and ever since I have eaten my weight in French Toast every weekend since then. So far I have tried it at twelve different places and three of them have been outstanding. You can expect a post on it soon. And while I am on the topic, if you have any recommendations in the DC area please let me know.

Another exciting this that happened was that I got to shoot at the sunflower fields (along with all the bees and mosquitos). Last year too I had tried to shoot there but was one week too late as by the time I made it the flowers had already wilted away (proof!). This year, I collaborated with Lyndon and we planned an afternoon shoot at the sunflower field. If only you knew the sweat and pain (literally) one can to endure to get these shots. The flowers are not there any more as they only peak for two to three weeks but you can bookmark this post for next year ;) - Here's some information about the fields:

The McKee Beshers Wildlife Management Area

In Western Montgomery County, this wildlife management area is home to upwards of forty acres of sunflowers in eight fields. The sunflowers begin their full bloom sometime in July and the peak lasts about two weeks. In addition to the sunflowers, the wildlife management area is made up of a 2000 acre mix of woodlands, fields and green-tree reservoirs. There are miles of trails through the forests, wetlands and fields open to hikers. There are a lot of bees, and hikers are advised to bring insect repellent for the mosquitoes that inhabit the wetlands. The sunflowers at peak bloom can be up to six feet tall! See photos below for proof. More detailed information can be found on their website: here.
