Lane Pryce Rebounds; Others Moving in a Different Direction

I like to write about "Mad Men" from time to time, but Salon's Nelle Engoran is on the beat, and who wants to invite invidious comparisons?  Her commentary on last night's episode is a tour de force.  Might she, however, have made mention of Lane's Macomber-like rally?  Remember when--I think a couple seasons ago--one show ended with his old father caning him into submission, then standing over his crumpled body in the manner of Clay over Liston?  There's something pathetic about a grown man being dominated and beaten by dad, but now Lane is the one to cold-cock Pete.  Everyone's been waiting for someone to replace that signature simper with a big red welt, and if Lane beds Joan, a teasing possibility, he will have a reward beyond any I can bestow.

On Saturday night, we watched Young Adult, a Netflix rental.  The screenplay is by Diablo Cody (Juno), it's directed by Jason Reitman (Thank You for Smoking, Juno, Up in the Air), and stars Charlize Theron. I'm now at an end of nice things to say about it.

Bad girl goes back to Lake Wobegon, has outlandish misadventures: just terrible.
