By Alyssa Martinez @ItsMariaAlyssa

If you are female and new to riding a motorcycle then you'll find this blog really interesting, it is packed full of useful information about various protective clothing that you should consider essential if you don't want to come a cropper when riding in any kind of weather. If you are already an established rider then you'll know how exactly how important having the right gear is, you might even be in need of some replacement clothing yourself, it never hurt to look anyway;

It's not just about looks you know?

Most people will go for looks over practicality, even when looking to buy safety gear which seems very odd indeed however, that is the world that we live in so we may as well make the most of it. However, and this is a big however, there is a reason why there are ladies motorcycle clothing and men's motorcycle clothing, mainly because men and women are not the same in terms of build.

They feel things in different ways too and both have different areas of importance to protect. Some areas of a man's body, i.e. their chests will be less of a risk than a woman's and as such will require a different level of protection. Equally, there will be areas of a woman's body that are less of a risk and therefore won't need as much protection. As such, it is crucial to have gender specific safety gear and clothes.

Fitting is of utmost importance

When you get new safety clothing it's absolutely crucial that it fits properly, if it doesn't fit your body properly then it will be uncomfortable and there is every chance that you won't wear it unless you absolutely have to, or you'll buy a new one which will just end up wasting time and money.

There are a few choices on the market in terms of materials that you can choose from but, you have to consider practicality above all, the whole purpose is to keep you safe, not to help you look cool.

Motorcycle jackets

Although there are fewer riders who are wounded above the waistline, it is still critical to ensure that you are well covered. Accidents above the waistline are actually more dangerous because they are less common; yet, just because they are less prevalent does not indicate that they do not occur.

Motorcycle gloves

Without the proper gloves, you will quickly start to develop hard skin or calluses growing on your palms and even blisters, particularly on your 'throttle' hand.

Motorcycle boots

As previously said, the majority of accidents, whether on or off the road, involve the legs, ankles, and feet, thus selecting the proper motorcycle boots is critical.

Motorcycle trousers

The most prevalent injuries for motorcycle riders will be from mishaps affecting your feet and or legs; it's no good having a very fantastic looking jacket if your legs, ankles, and feet aren't covered.

Think safety

Irrespective of the gear you purchase, there are several definite musts in terms of safety that you should consider in all aspects of your apparel. Visibility, you must ensure that the clothes you are purchasing are bright enough and or incorporate enough reflective material to provide good visibility for other road users to see.

Finally, you'll want to make sure there's enough air and flexibility; anything that makes you feel uneasy might lead to an accident.
