When Passion Pit released Gossamer and departed from knocking their vocals a couple octaves up, I was disappointed to hear just another normal sounding dude. To me, hit songs like “Take a Walk” felt boring in contrast to “Sleepyhead” and “Little Secrets”. I left my Passion Pit days behind without a thought, but La+ch and Dustbuster has filled a void I didn’t even know was there until their pitched up vocals on “Hunter” were beamed into my ears. It’s energetic dance music in its best incarnation — there’s no fussing with things like drops. It is the rare type of dance song that’s just as enjoyable through headphones, blasting on the car stereo or among sweaty masses at a festival.
Simply said, the song is good enough to make you forgive that the artist substituted a ‘+’ where a ‘t’ ought to be, the type of flagrantly annoying spelling that would usually serve as a dealbreaker for me. Instead, I’m suggesting you slide “Hunter” into your rotation and climb down their wormhole of a SoundCloud that includes remixes of Arcade Fire’s “Reflektor” and Mapei’s “Don’t Wait”.
