LANCASTER – The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department announced Saturday that homicide detectives arrested fugitive murder suspect Jesus “Chuey” Canales, who was found hiding in Mexico. Canales allegedly used a sword to kill Lucy Preciado in front of her small children in her apartment in Lancaster on July 12, 2008, according to the Sheriff’s report. The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors voted on Nov. 5 to reinstate a $10,000 reward for information leading to the arrest or conviction of Canales after Supervisor Michael Antonovich recommended re-offering the reward, which expired five years ago. LASD Homicide detectives utilized LASD Major Crimes detectives, the US Marshal’s Service and Mexican Authorities to arrest and return the suspect to Los Angeles County after learning that Canales may possibly be residing in a small town in Jalisco, Mexico. Homicide detectives took custody of Canales on Nov. 15 after US Marshals flew him to Los Angeles International Airport, according to the report. The suspect then was transported to Century Regional Detention Facility and booked on a felony arrest warrant for Murder and Child Endangerment with a bail amount of $1.4 million. Canales will be arraigned at Antelope Valley Superior Court on Monday, Nov. 18. Read the full Sheriff’s Department release at local.nixle.com.
