Kučka is not to be mistaken for another ersatz Grimes project. On “Divinity”, Australian artist Laura Jane Lowther lays down her vocals around a crystalline shuffle of loose beats that give the track a wholesome, luscious feel. A self-conscious neo-R&B production approach remarkably keeps the song afloat without relying heavily upon a litany of loops. Though the synth-heavy single does not necessarily redefine electronic music in a pop context, Lowther’s charismatic delivery is catchy and enjoyable, proudly dodging middle-of-road clichés.
