Knowledge You Can Use to Improve Your Daily Life

If you believe God created you then does that mean that part of God is in you?
(That would be pretty amazing, wouldn't it?)
Of the many quotes in the Bible people talk about one of them pertains to being made in "God's image."  What does this really mean?
Here is the quote that led to what people talk about.
Then God said, “Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness, so that they may rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky, over the livestock and all the wild animals, and over all the creatures that move along the ground.”                                                                                                                         - Genesis 1:26

As these posts are about looking at different perspectives to get meaning, this is the author's list of what a person could think is meant by "made in God's image.":

What Does It Mean To Be Made In God's Image?

• You look like God physically.
• You have similar characteristics as God; i.e. loving, caring, forgiving.
• You were made exactly the way God want you to be created (physically, emotionally, intellectually).
• You were born with the qualities (ability, persistence, etc.) necessary to fulfill God's plan for you.
• You have dominion over other creatures made by God (such as animals).
• You have the Holy Spirit inside you that was sent at Pentecost.  It helps guide you.
• You have a conscience you were born with that tells you right from wrong, even if you are not aware of it.

The first one on this list could likely be eliminated since God is spirit and you are manifested physically (although you are a spiritual being).  What about the other ones?

For this answer the post looked at what authority thinks.  In the church authority is generally accepted as Clergy (Priests, etc.). 

A logical person to ask about religious matters would be the Pope, who is the highest authority in the Catholic Church.  What does he think "made in God's image" means?  "Each human being is a miracle loved by God", said the Pope.

This is a good summation, but what does church doctrine have to say?

From religionfacts.com "made in God's image" is broken down into 4 general categories.  They are:

1. Similarity
2. Counterpart
3. Dominion
4. Representation

This website does a good job of describing what these mean if you are interested.  Religionfacts.com is intended to be an unbiased representation of God's word.

From these lists of what it means to be made "in God's image" and some interpretation other inferences could be made.  These could be made to add value to the reader. 

For the purpose of this post and description for the reader here are some of those "logical" inferences.

*  Humans are made with inherent independent value and are all unique and valuable.
*  Humans exist in relation to others, just as the Trinity exists in relation to its' parts.
*  Humans have creative capability, as God created everything.
*  Humans have reasoning ability and the capability of making choices.
Eastern Orthodox doctrine seems to share some of the values of these inferences in interpreting "God's image."  The fourth one on the list is especially worth noting

Does This Affect Your Daily Life?

Knowledge can be a good thing, but the Bible is also meant to transform your life.

What the author gleans from this information is that humans were born with a conscience.  God does not want you to be a robot so he gave you free will.  Deep down humans have an idea of when they are doing the wrong thing.  

You were created in love and when you act against this natural instinct it causes problems.  These problems might not be evident to you directly until you examine yourself spiritually.

It is significant that you were created in God's image because it ultimately means he does  care for you.
