Kitchen Table, Shelves, and Light Fixture

By Homewithbaxter @homewithbaxter
Hi guys!  Sorry it's been a week since my last post...time is just getting away from me these days. Hello to my new Bloglovin followers!  I just added a button to my sidebar to make it easier if you want to follow me that way.
Okay, so now a quick kitchen update!  I got my butt in gear and installed open shelving next to the stove, a new light fixture over the island, and put together a new kitchen table from Ikea.

I went with the Holman Shelves from Pottery Barn.  Total rip off, I know, but the dimensions were right, they come primed and ready to paint, and they're deep enough to hold some dishes. I haven't painted them yet (contemplating same color as cabinets or something fun), but they still look alright.

A couple of weeks ago, I shared with you some of my favorite lighting options for the kitchen.  I decided on the Eldridge Pendant Light from Ballard Designs for above the island and I love love love it! We had a little fiasco installing it because we cut the electrical cords too short (doh!), but it's finally up. It's a nice big light, but not visually obstructive because of the glass pains.  One of my biggest peeves is not being able to clearly see someone standing on the other side of the island.

And lastly, our new kitchen table. We bought the Hajdeby table from Ikea (sorry, but I can't find a link to it online).  It's the perfect size for our small little nook and I think it only cost $130. For chairs, we just brought in some extras from our dining room  (they are the Vintner Black Side Chairs from Crate&Barrel and match both tables so we can move them around as needed).  I wanted to break up the darkness of the furniture, so I bought the coordinating seat cushions in ivory. I love the little ribbon ties and they feel good on the tush. I'm on the lookout for a 5-6' round rug to go under the table, so if you have any suggestions, I'll gladly take them!  I'm thinking either natural/jute or something bright and fun.

Happy first day of Spring tomorrow.  We just got about a foot of snow today.  Someone's cruel idea of a joke?
