Usually I can make sense out of Pirates trades... Well, post Dave Littlefield era, but this one is baffling
Was Liriano garbage and not worth the money anymore? Yes. Rumors had it that he was refusing to work with Ray Searage. Fine. Get rid of him
Harold Ramirez isn't anything special and he's an outfielder on a team stable there.
Reese McGuire shocked everyone. At one point he was the catcher of the future but his last 2 seasons have seen him take a setback and not progress as hoped. I think more fans remember him as a the great prospect than what he had become... However he still has potential.
3 players and we received cash and Drew Hutchinson.
Drew Hutchinson has an ERA near 5 for his MLB career who gives up a lot of Hits and Home Runs. Not exactly an exciting return.
Salary dump, okay, but for that haul of players, Neal should've gotten a better haul than Drew Hutchinson.

The Pirates also traded Jonathan Niese for Antonio Bastardo. Esentially we trades Neil Walker for a couple months of Jonathan Niese since Bastardo was with the Pirates last year.

But instead we added 2 decent value prospects to the deal to basically get cash in return.
It's why I can't view this as nothing more than a cash grab
