Backing up his self-titled debut, which spread like wild fire through Australian music crowds, we have Kim Churchill’s new album Into The Steel. The first time I saw Kim Churchill, he had a tambourine on each foot, a dozen pedals, half a drum kit and an array of guitars surrounding him. While he’s certainly a multi-instrumentalist, the music he creates is mainly acoustic, laid back tunes. He’s most known for his distinct voice, which bellows with a very emotive rasp — think the folk version of James Morrison or the earthy version of Ed Sheeran. With the addition of a string section on this album, the result is mellow, soothing and all around delicious.
